The 1957 Academy Awards ceremonies were broadcast live on March 26th, 1958 from the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Presenters

Hosts were Bob Hope, Rosalind Russell, David Niven, James Stewart, Jack Lemon, and the voice of Donald Duck.

Presenters for the 30th Academy Awards included Bette Davis, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Sophia Loren, and John Wayne. Rock Hudson and Mae West performed the popular "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and Debbie Reynolds performed "Tammy" from "Tammy and the Bachelor."

The Bridge on the River Kwai was the 1957 Oscar winner for Best Picture and received six more awards including Best Actor for Alec Guinness and Best Director for David Lean.

The Bridge on the River Kwai is a 1957 British World War II film starring Alec Guinness as a British Colonel who co-operates with a Japanese POW camp commander to oversee his men's construction of a railway bridge.

Joanne Woodard won the 1957 Oscar for Best Actress with her phenomenal performance in "The Three Faces of Eve".

Born in Thomasville, Georgia on February 27, 1930, Joanne Woodward began acting on the stage and acted in her first film in the 1955 western "Count Three and Pray".

In her Oscar winning role as Eve, Woodward becomes the first actress to win an award for portraying three different personalities. The Three Faces of Eve received no other nominations than the Best Actress awarded to Woodward.

Joanne Woodward is well known for her unheard of by Hollywood standards fifty year marriage to Paul Newman. They married in 1958 after their work together in the film "The Long, Hot Summer" and went on to co-star with Newman in ten feature films.
